Ancient prosthetic of eyeball
|
In December 2006, archaeologists discovered in Shahr-i-Suhte ancient prosthetic eyeball, hemispherical shape with a diameter of just over 2,5 cm It is made of very light material, presumably bitumen paste. The surface of the artificial eye is covered with a thin layer of gold, its engraved in the center of a circle (representing the iris) with golden lines radiating in the form of rays. Women's remains, next to which the artificial eye discovered, had increased 1.82 m - is much higher than for the average woman of that time. On both sides of the artificial eye were drilled fine holes through which pass through the gold wire, through which the eye was fixed in the orbit. Microscopic studies have found traces of gold wire, which indicates that the artificial eye is constantly used. The skeleton dates from a period of about 2900-2800 years. BC. er.
